Since announcing the removal of the ERB as the universal evaluation test used for entry into New York’s private school elementary programs in March, The Independent Schools Admissions Association of Greater New York (ISAAGNY) had failed to name a replacement test. Recently, ISAAGNY announced that it will begin a pilot program using a Kindergarten Readiness Task (KRT) as a means for admission and preparedness evaluation for the 2014-2015 school year. The KRT is a 5-7 minute iPad-based assessment that measures cognitive skills including attention/concentration span, impulse control and cognitive flexibly and will be administered during playgroup visits to schools. ISAAGNY announced that it will be conducting a pilot program of the KRT at ten select schools including Berkeley Carroll, Cathedral School of St. John, Chapin, Covent of the Sacred Heart, Dalton, Mandell, Marymount, Poly Prep, Riverdale and Saint David's. Applicants to Riverdale will also be required to complete the AABL as part of its application process.
Scores from the KRT will be share amongst all of the participating pilot schools that your child is applying to so that the assessment will only need to be taken once. The scores, however, will not be shared with parents. Parents will be required to sign the “Kindergarten Readiness Task Parental Consent” section of each of the participating schools’ application so that de-identified scores may be used for further analysis.
